Deep beneath the surface of Transylvania, Romania, lies a world where salt and whimsy collide: Salina Turda, a historic salt mine transformed into an underground amusement park. This subterranean wonderland boasts the only Ferris wheel in the world that operates underground, standing a majestic 20 meters tall within the Rudolf Mine chamber. Visitors can either descend 172 steps or glide down via a glass panoramic elevator to reach this marvel, nestled approximately 120 meters below the earth's crust.

The mine's history dates back to May 1, 1271, when it was first mentioned in a document from the Hungarian royal chancellery. Salt extraction continued until 1932, after which the site found new life as a bomb shelter during World War II and later as a cheese storage facility. In 1992, Salina Turda opened to tourists, and a major renovation between 2008 and 2010, funded by EU and local investments, transformed it into the multifunctional park we see today.

Beyond the Ferris wheel, Salina Turda offers a smorgasbord of activities, including mini-golf, bowling, and boat rides on an underground lake within the Terezia Mine. The mine's unique microclimate also makes it a health destination, offering natural aerosol therapy. Salina Turda is not just a relic of the past; it's a testament to human creativity and the endless possibilities of reimagining our world. Normal is overrated when you can ride a Ferris wheel underground!
