In a three-month study, pet parrots learned to ring a bell when they wanted a video call, then tap a photo to choose another bird. Eighteen birds entered the study and 15 completed it. Many calls ran to the five-minute limit, and birds that placed more calls also received more—evidence of a genuinely social exchange, not a screen playing at them. Caregivers supervised every call, and the researchers warn that this is not a do-it-yourself enrichment shortcut.
